WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, Salaried, Overtime Exempt
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
SUPERVISES: Visitor Information Clerks (VIC)
SALARY: $49,000 - $51,000, DOE
BENEFITS: Eligible for benefits provided by the employer

Mission Statement: Ketchikan Visitors Bureau’s mission is to promote Ketchikan, attract visitors, and enhance
the economy.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

To carry out tasks associated with the KVB's mission to promote Ketchikan as a visitor destination. Specifically, the
Visitor Services Manager ensures visitor information facilities are operated to the highest standards and that
knowledge of and information about Ketchikan tourism products and services are readily available to consumers,
travel trade representatives, and community members.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the operations of all visitor information facilities.
  • Initiate hiring, training, and scheduling of KVB’s seasonal visitor information clerks (VICs), for six months
    of the year.
  • Ensure cleanliness, equipment is in working order, and supplies are stocked as needed within facilities.
  • Respond to visitor inquiries by phone, email, and walk-ins promptly and professionally.
  • Manage the fulfillment of visitor guide requests.
  • Supervise seasonal operations (late April through October) in the KVB Tour Center, located at Berth 2.
  • Gather information and prepare a variety of documents including annual cruise ship calendar and
    tourism statistics historical reports.
  • Assist in developing budgets and monitor spending to adhere to budgeted allocation.
  • Maintain and update master information files on area attractions and services.
  • Coordinate with visitor information center staff throughout Alaska and the Pacific NW to stock visitor
    guides from other communities and to keep supplies of Ketchikan material in stock at their facilities.
  • Promote and update KVB Language Bank.
  • Annually update materials in manuals and files used by seasonal VICs and full-time KVB staff members.
  • Serve as lead visitor information clerk during the summer season. Ensure supplies and materials needed
    by VIC staff are available.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures of KVB (flags, lights, locks) when necessary. Performs other
    duties or projects as assigned.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist other team members with project or program assistance on an as-needed basis.
  • Represent KVB at community meetings and events that are relevant to the Visitor Services
    department or as requested by the Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • The qualified candidate should be reliable, self-motivated, kind, trustworthy, and possess the ability to
    deal with people at all levels of contact. They should enjoy an office setting and working with a team.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and communications skills.
  • Possess above average competency with computer programs such as Microsoft Office suite and
    understand content management services.
  • Sales and event management experience is highly desired.
  • Willing to become a trainer for customer service and other industry-related educational programs.
  • Licensed driver with a vehicle.
  • Ability to travel as needed for educational or trade purposes.
  • Will be required to sign a conflict of interest and confidentiality affidavits.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Ketchikan Visitors Bureau is a non-profit organization that can employ up to five full-time, year-round staff and five seasonal staff. The seasonal staff and Visitor Services Manager work in the visitor centers at Berth 2 and Berth 3, while all other staff work from the administrative office at 50 Front Street in downtown Ketchikan. The
KVB is a business/business casual office environment.

All full-time staff participate in periodic after-hours and weekend events.
