In a Few Days
A 3–4 day visit provides opportunity to get an in depth feel for our community.
Day 1
Tour historic downtown Ketchikan and Creek Street. The Tongass Historical Museum, Dolly’s House, SE Alaska Discovery Center, and the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show provide a sense of the history of our town, The Deer Mountain Tribal Hatchery & Eagle Center and Totem Heritage Center highlight native cultural influences that have shaped today’s Ketchikan.
Day 2
Visit Saxman Native Village or Totem Bight State Park. Hike at Ward Lake Recreation Area or take a guided walk through the Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary. Alaska Canopy Tours and Southeast Exposure feature zip line and ropes challenge courses. A visit to the George Inlet Cannery allows you to look back at the industry that put Ketchikan on the map in the early 1900s as the "Salmon Capital of the World."
Day 3
Fly and/or cruise to Misty Fiords National Monument. After mid-July, tour one of many bear viewing areas. Beach comb, hike and picnic at Rotary Beach, Refuge Cove State Park or Settler's Cove State Park. Hop a floatplane carrying freight and mail to neighboring communities and experience the life of an Alaskan bush pilot. Opt for a drop off at a remote lake and spend several hours in perfect solitude. Whether you explore by land or sea, look for wildlife, birds and marine animals during your adventure.
