Alaska Local 50th Birthday Celebration Event. Fabulous Fifties First Friday Soda Fountain. The Ketchikan Pioneers’ Home, 141 Bryant Street wishes Alaska a Happy 50th Anniversary! We were there! It’s an Ice Cream Social! The first Friday of every month throughout 2009, You’re invited to come and enjoy 50’s music and stories from elders who have tales to tell. First Friday Story & Craft Time: The Children's Library will offer a story and craft time the first Friday of each month from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. The library is located at 629 Dock Street. For further information, conact 907-225-0370.

Flowering Art Exhibit on Display at the Presbyterian Church. “Flowers” is the theme of the summer art exhibit at the Ketchikan Presbyterian Church now through September. Church pastor George Pasley says the exhibit is eclectic, and features an assortment of art using a wide variety of mediums including antique fruit boxes, pipe cleaners, needlepoint, embroidered clothing, posters, and a birdhouse. Most of the collection on display has been loaned by church members, including a scrapbook of Alaskan wildflowers and garden flowers, but it also includes photography by Jeff Fitzwater and Samuel Horpestad. The Ketchikan Presbyterian Church is located at 2711 Second Avenue, and is open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sundays, and other days by calling 907-225-3619.

Garden Club: The Ketchikan Garden Club regularly meets the third Monday of each month at the Library located at 629 Dock street at 6:30 p.m. For further information regarding the club and additional events taken place throughout the year, please contact Lee Skidmore at 907-225-7082.

Gateway Recreation Center: The Rec Center, located at 601 Schoenbar Road, is open daily from 5:45 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. There are a variety of activities and games available along with an indoor track and fitness room. Rec passes run from $1.50 to $5.00, depending on the activity choice. For further information, contact 907-225-9579.

Ketchikan Public Library: The Library, located at 629 Dock Street, is open Monday through Wednesday 10:00 - 8:00 p.m., Thursday through Saturday 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. and Sundays 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. For further information, contact 907-225-3331.

Ketchikan Historical Museum: The Museum, located at 629 Dock Street, is open during summer season 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Sunday. For further information, contact 907-225-5600.

Our Town: The Life & Times of Ketchikan. The Tongass Historical Museum’s summer exhibit is now on display! The vibrant history of Alaska’s “First City” will delight locals and visitors alike! Hundreds of vintage photographs and artifacts will tell the story of the people, places, events and industries that have shaped our community, from its earliest days to the twenty-first century. please contact 907-225-5600 for further information.

The Ketchikan Yacht Club invites members and visitors to our community to Friday Hamburger Night. Any one with nautical intersts and desire to be with some good company,.is invited to join the gang every Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Club extends a special greetings to visitors and offers the meal, comlimentary. The Yacht Club facility is loacated at the Thomas Basin Marina.  

Knitting with Nancy: Thursday nights Nancy Nurmi is available for private knitting lessons at Mission Street Arts and Fibers located at 500 Mission Street in the Cape Fox Marketplace. For further information, contact 907-225-2854.

Mike Smithers Pool: The pool, located at 2610 Fourth Avenue, has $2.00 Open Swims Monday, Wednesday and Friday 7:15 - 8:15 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 1:15 - 3:15 p.m. $5.00 Lap Swims are available 5:00 - 8:00 a.m. M - F, 11:00 - 1:00 p.m. every day,  6:00 - 7:00 p.m. M - F. for further information, contact 907-225-2010. 

Rainy Day Quilters: The Quilters meet the fourth Tuesday of each month, 6:45 p.m., at Holy Name Church located at 433 Jackson Street.

SE Alaska Discovery Center: The Center, located at 50 Main Street is open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Sunday during the summer season. For further information, contact 907-228-6220.

Storyhour at the Library: The Children's Library, located at 629 Dock Street, provides a regular storyhour Thursday and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. After some play time, the librarian reads stories, sings songs, does finger plays and shows a short film. Totem Heritage Center: The Center, located at 601 Deermont, is open during the summer Monday through Sunday from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. For further information, contact 907-225-5900.

Yarn Bee: The fourth Sunday of each month the adukt library has a Yarn Bee from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.. Each session begins with a brief presentation which is followed by time to socialize and work on projects. refreshments are served. The library is located at 629 Dock Street. Entertainment: Regularly scheduled entertainment available at varied venues around Ketchikan.

Gospel/Bluegrass Jam Sessions: Jam  to Gospel/bluegrass music every Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at the stARTled Salmon in the Cape Fox Marketplace located at 500 Mission Street. 

The Monthly Grind: September - May. Coffeehouse/variety show in its 17th season. Ticket Prices: $5.00; for adults and $1.00 for children-Showcases the talents of local musicians, storytellers, poets, and dancers. A family tradition. Coffee, tea and dessert included in the price of admission. Bring a dessert and get a refund. Saxman Tribal House at 7:00 pm. The New York Cafe: Ketchikan Coffee Company at the New York Hotel presents live music every Friday and Saturday night at 207 Stedman Street. Friday's performamces are Jazz themed and Saturday's music will cover the range of Folk & Bluegrass. Music starting at 6:00 p.m. and the restaurant prepares light diiners and appetizers. For further information, contact 907-247-2326.  

Sweet Second Saturdays: Dances will be held every second Saturday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Cape Fox Marketplace commons, 500 Mission Street. Donation of $5.00 will be accepted for those 16 years and older.
