It’s time for the annual Winter Art Walk, so head downtown to your favorite galleries and shops! From 5-7pm on Friday, December 5^th, there will be a downtown holiday celebration in Ketchikan’s downtown. Pick up a map at any location, including the Public Library, the Arts Council, Exploration Gallery, Soho Coho, Parnassus Books, Scanlon’s, Mission Street Arts and Fibers, and more! Each place will have different festivities: new displays, artwork, warm drinks, refreshments, friends, and holiday cheer! The Tongass Historical Museum displays a retrospective exhibition of artwork by one of Ketchikan’s incredible artistic talents. His work is known for its incredible detail and realism- and often features the wildlife and scenery of Ketchikan. The Opening Reception will be held on Friday, December 5^th, 5-7pm at the Tongass Historical Museum located at 629 Dock Street.

Toy Run Dance fundraiser sponsored by KHRA is being held at First City Saloon located at 830 Water Street. on December 6, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. Admission is a donation of $10.00 or a toy at the door.

Holiday Garland with Halli Kenoyer- For Big Brothers and Big Sisters! Join artist Halli Kenoyer and create a holiday garland. This garland is suitable as a gift or a decoration- make it for any winter holiday! The fun for Big Brothers and Big Sisters will be on Saturday, December 13, 2008, at the Ketchikan Area Arts and Humanities Council located at 716 Totem Way from 10am to noon. Don’t miss Ketchikan’s famous runway fashion show extravaganza, featuring wearable art modeled on the catwalk to music. Feast your eyes on amazing pieces created by local and guest artists, displayed in musical numbers performed by some of Ketchikan ’s finest talents. The Wearable Art Show has three gala performances on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights: a show along with hors d’oevres, desserts, coffee, and a no host bar. The youth-oriented Saturday matinee features student artists, classroom projects, and refreshments for the whole family.
